What to Expect

The Mossy Puddle Co-op is more than just a class—it's a shared commitment to raising learners who are rooted in nature and connected to their community. Here’s what you can expect when you join us:

Our Weekly Rhythm: Thursdays, 2:00 - 4:00 pm

We gather every week, rain or shine, in Belfair State Park. These two hours are dedicated to community, learning and the essential, messy business of outdoor play. This consistent gathering establishes a reliable, joyful touchstone for your homeschool week.

A Village Approach: From Infants to Teens

Everyone, at every age has a place. Parent participation is foundational: Each participating parent is expected to actively volunteer from time to time to lead or assist one of our weekly age breakout groups, ensuring focused, age-appropriate instruction for all.

History and Geography

Our current plan is to use Pandia Press for History at 3 levels. Join the Facebook group or message Jana to give her your thoughts.

Community & Respect

A welcoming, inclusive community for families of all backgrounds. Our programming is secular, and we respect each person’s name.

Lending Library

Mossy Puddle offers a small lending library for co-op families, with resources available across subjects and primarily centered on the elementary years. Materials are shared as a community resource and may be borrowed to support learning at home.

Monthly Office Hours

As part of the co-op, families are invited to monthly office hours with Jana for collaborative troubleshooting, support, and thoughtful guidance tailored to their homeschool journey.

Check the Calendar Page to see dates.

Transparent Pricing & Sliding Scale

The Napkin Math: Essential fixed costs—like our required insurance policy, permitting fees and a budget for instructional support—mean we have a minimum operating cost before anyone shows up.

Additionally, the state parks charge a use fee per person, per day for groups operating on an ongoing basis within the parks. A family of 4 that comes once per week costs the hosting organization about $40 in fees.

To meet this cost, we use a trust-based sliding scale where every contribution directly supports the running of the co-op. Your fee covers the expenses that make this time together safe and sustainable.

Subsidized Contribution

For families who need additional financial support at this time.

$30 / Family / Month

Sustaining Contribution

Reflects the real cost of operating the co-op, including permits, insurance, materials, and paid instruction.

$65 / Family / Month

Supporting Contribution

For families with higher household incomes who are able to help support accessibility for others.

$100 / Family / Month

No one is ever turned away due to lack of funds.

History & Geography • Spring 2026

Learning takes place through shared, multi-age instruction designed to bring all students together around a common theme.

To ensure families can continue the study at home, we provide optional, scaffolded take-home assignments every week. These materials are organized into four distinct, age-specific levels to match your student's stage. They are intended purely for enrichment and personalized practice—they are low-pressure and are never collected or graded for assessment.

Inclusive. Secular. Welcoming.

Mossy Puddle is an inclusive, secular community. We welcome families of all backgrounds, belief systems and identities and expect all participants to engage with one another with respect and care. Discrimination, harassment, or exclusion of any kind is not tolerated. By enrolling, families agree to uphold these values and support a safe, welcoming environment for all.
